A conversation with Justice John Paul Stevens

The late Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens shared stories and insights from his 40-year career on the bench with Dean David F. Levi, now director of the Bolch Judicial Institute, during a visit to Duke Law School on May 12, 2012.

Justice Stevens was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1975 by President Gerald R. Ford and retired in 2010 as the third longest-serving judge in the court’s history. Prior to the Supreme Court, he served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Justice Stevens died on July 16, 2019, at the age of 99.
