The American Law Institute and the Bolch Judicial Institute at Duke Law have released a recording of their co-hosted webinar Using Generative AI in Chamberswhich originally aired on November 17, 2025.

On this webinar, you’ll find judges’ reflections on how generative-AI tools are beginning to shape day-to-day work in chambers and guidance on both the opportunities and the limits of these emerging technologies. The panelists also discuss practical examples, early use cases, and the kinds of guardrails courts may need as these tools evolve.

Note: Panelists speak only for themselves, not for their respective courts. References to specific generative-AI tools are illustrative and not endorsements.

The program features:

  • Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, District of Columbia Court of Appeals
  • Allison H. Goddard, U.S. District Court, Southern District of California
  • Xavier Rodriguez, U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas
  • Scott U. Schlegel, Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal
  • Samuel A. Thumma, Arizona Court of Appeals

Moderated by: Judge Paul W. Grimm, U.S. District Court, District of Maryland (Ret.), Director of the Bolch Judicial Institute
