Upcoming Conferences

The Duke Conference series offers bench-bar-academy conferences, inviting a wide range of prominent bench leaders, government officials, senior-level plaintiff and defense lawyers, technical experts, and academics to address emerging or pressing legal issues, providing them an opportunity to develop positions that can guide government policy-makers and decision-makers. Learn more about our bench-bar conference series here.

NEW for 2020!  The Bolch Judicial Institute launches a new series of annual class action and mass-tort MDL conferences, which review developments in case law and practices arising in the immediate past 12 months.  The annual-review conferences will be open to all and complement the Institute’s Distinguished Lawyers invitation-only conferences, which will continue to be held to develop best practices, guidelines, or principles addressing specific problems.

The bench and bar constantly develop innovative practices in class actions and mass-tort MDLs to address new case law and emerging issues. Many of these practices remain hidden and privy to a select few.   At the annual review conferences, panels of prominent judges and lawyers will highlight the main cases and innovations.  Interactive discussions between the panelists and all conferees will also identify potential issues and projects for future Distinguished Lawyers invitation-only conferences to address and develop best practices.  In addition, the Bolch Judicial Institute will hold annual Mass-Torts MDL certificate programs, following up on its successful inaugural 2019 certificate program.

We are seeking funding from sponsors to provide whole or partial scholarships to conference attendees who, by reason of their background, culture, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, work and life experiences, would contribute to a fuller representation of perspectives at the conference.  If you are interested in sponsoring a conference, please contact Lora Beth Farmer at
