Duke Law 3L Yucen Zhong was selected by a vote of the Judicature Editorial Board as the publication’s inaugural Emerging Scholars Contest winner. Her piece, Multidistrict Litigation as a Patent Venue Strategy After TC Heartland: Worth It or Too Risky for Litigants?, will be published in a future edition of the journal. Zhong will also receive a $1,000 prize.

Judicature is a scholarly journal focused on the judiciary, the administration of justice, and the rule of law. It is published by the Bolch Judicial Institute three times per year. The Institute’s director, former Chief Judge for the Eastern District of California Kim Mueller, noted that the annual contest was a meaningful way to engage current students and recent graduates on important topics related to the judiciary.

“The Bolch Institute is pleased to be able to promote young scholars in this way. Our board, which includes judges, practitioners, and professors, was impressed by the quality of the submissions we received, and we were amazed by Yucen’s thoughtful piece. We hope she will continue to contribute on these topics as she enters her legal career.”

The Bolch Judicial Institute’s publication Judicature is accepting submissions for next year’s prize through the end of 2026.
