The Bolch Judicial Institute of Duke Law School hosted the third annual McGovern Symposium on Civil Litigation on December 12, 2024, at Duke University. The symposium was made possible through the generous support of David Bernick and Chris Seeger, founding contributors to the McGovern Fund, pictured above with Paul W. Grimm, director of the Bolch Judicial Institute of Duke Law School.
As one attendee noted on LinkedIn, the 2024 symposium explored the evolving role of the courts in navigating large-scale public policy issues traditionally beyond the judiciary’s scope, with discussions covering critical aspects of complex litigation, including MDLs, interlocutory appeals, rule amendments, active case management, and class actions.
The symposium was established to honor the memory of Duke Law Professor Francis E. McGovern. Attendees share commentary and ideas, and, in homage to Professor McGovern’s spirited approach to problem-solving, engage in lively discussions about challenges facing the field and the future of complex litigation.
