Now Accepting Nominations Bolch Prize for the Rule of Law and the Lemkin Rule of Law Guardian Medal

The Bolch Judicial Institute of Duke Law School is now accepting nominations for the Bolch Prize for the Rule of Law and the Lemkin Rule of Law Guardian Medal.

Bolch Prize for the Rule of Law

The Carl and Susan Bolch Prize for the Rule of Law is awarded to an individual or organization that has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to the rule of law and advancing rule of law principles around the world. It recognizes the lifetime achievement of an individual or a single or series of acts of an individual or an organization creating, promoting, or preserving the rule of law nationally or internationally.

The Raphael Lemkin Rule of Law Guardian Medal

The Lemkin Rule of Law Guardian Medal is awarded to remarkable individuals who have taken steps both large and small to protect and advance the Rule of Law, such as lawyers who fight for justice for clients, judges who follow the law even when it goes against popular opinion, individuals who, despite great personal risks, stand up for due process and for legal systems that treat all people with fairness and dignity. These everyday heroes are guardians of the rule of law. By their actions, they ensure the functioning of democracy and protect human rights.

The submission deadline for all nominations is June 22, 2023. If you have any questions about the nomination criteria or process, please email bolchjudicialinstitute@law.duke.edu.
